Day ONE: Getting There and Settling In

We met at the church around 8:00am (9:00am if you're bishop Page :) and packed up in my car and Bishop Steele's. After a quick stop at McDonald's and Maverick we were on our way to the Uintas. We started the hike around 12:00pm from Grandview Trailhead and hiked about 7.5 miles to Lost Lake and set up camp. The hike wasn't bad except Tad's straps busted, but luckily we had twine and pocket knifes and mad skills.

Our campspot was AWESOME. We made benches that went around a fire pit we made and even made a card table out of a giant flat rock!!

Card Table (thats ingenious)

We also found a great stream right by our camp spot where we could go fill up our canteens and containers. It was beautiful there.
Day TWO: Powell Lake, Rainbow Lake, and Huck Finn

We got up and hiked over to a little lake called Powell Lake, It should be named lost lake not the lake we were staying at because there are no trails that lead to it. It was a beautiful little lake with an island in the middle. The boys all swam to it and the Bishops couldn't keep the fish off their lines. I just threw rocks and the boys while they were in the water and enjoyed my book on Uinta's mountains.

Swimming at Powell Lake
After Powell Lake we hiked to Rainbow lake and found a raft. After a couple of minor adjustments we decided to launch it and Colton and Will volunteered to captain the inaugural voyage of the SS Huck Finn. Heres some pics and even a video.
After that little experience, we hiked up to Gov. Dern and Pinto lakes, the bishops kept fishing we hiked back to base camp and played cards and ate dinner. Then it was Mafia till like Midnight. Never trust a man playing mafia, not even bishop Steele. You can trust me though, I promise.
Day THREE: CYCLONE PASS & the GIANT SPIDERS

So I'd hiked into the four lakes basin before, but never over to cyclone pass, My book that I brought said it was a hike for the hearty or fool-hearty. It has about 1500 feet of vertical in about a 1/2 mile climb. The book claimed that you had to crawl over giant boulders with thousands of GIANT SPIDERS. The book also said that just on the other side was Thompson lake that had THE BEST FISHING in all the lakes of the Uintas (virtually nobody was crazy enough to hike back there so the fish would just get massive). I was enamored with the idea and we set off day three for the adventure. We found a beautiful spring half-way there and everyone dumped out their Gatorade and filled up with the best tasting water straight out of the earth, you'd ever had. We made it to Daynes lake first, here are some photos.

We found a skull along the bank of the lake, it looked like a really REALLY big mountain lion, or cougar.

We kept pressing forward and began climbing CYCLONE PASS. IT was super hard, and amazing, once we got the top we were pooped. Some made the trip down to Thompson lake (note: NOT the best fishing in the Uintas) and most stayed up on top of the ridge and ate lunch and played some Juegos.

There was snow up on top. This is the view toward Thompson lake

This is the view back toward four lakes basin, where we just hiked up.

Heres the whole clan and Daynes Lake in the background. This picture does NOT due justice to the view we had from up here. It was breathtaking. I guess cell phone cameras still don't quite cut it huh?
Heres a video of some of the craziness that exists at Scout Camp.
Day FOUR: Powell Lake and Capture the Flag

Day four we decided to rest our little feet. When asked how the blisters on his feet were doing Mitch would reply, "very blistery." We started the day with a hike over to Powell Lake, hung out and hiked back and set up the world's coolest Capture the flag course. Will made flags out of branches, plastic baggies and glow sticks, IT was AWESOME. We set up boundaries with ropes, logs, rivers and trails, we made jails and everything, we awaited dusk to begin the greatest game of CTF ever to be played. In the mean time, we rested, napped, and played cards.
Day Five: The Trek Home!

We woke up and began packing up camp. We weren't in a hurry so we enjoyed the morning just hanging around, sleeping in and eating breakfast (or spagetti if you're name is JP)

It was hard to see camp disappear one tent at a time, but everyone was excited to get home and take a hot shower. I was excited to see my wife and baby. We got water before we headed out, put out the fire for the last time and began the journey.

We got back to the trail head about 4:00pm and drove to Francis where we stopped and ate burgers, shakes, and fries oh my! That was delicious!!!
Mitch gave the camp "two fingers up in a peace sign." What does that even mean? I think everyone had a great time.
